I have worked in education for over 20 years as a teaching assistant in a school for children who have severe learning difficulties. Alongside this, I also work as an NVQ assessor, with this role I visit various schools and support teaching assistants in gaining their NVQ at both levels 2 and 3. Professionally my two job roles compliment each other as I see how a school is run as a member of staff and also as an outside visitor to other schools. I have been a governor for the last 10 years, at what was my son’s primary school, which is a community, maintained school. I was originally elected as a parent governor and now as a co-opted governor. I have been chair for over three years now and, although it has its challenges, I thoroughly enjoy the role. Since taking over as chair there have been a lot of changes and all for the good of the school and the governing board. I have supported the development of the board and implemented changes to improve monitoring by governors and helped to develop the team as a whole.
